The main text is by Griffiths: Introduction to Quantum Mechanics
Spiegel: ``Advanced Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists'' is used as a supplement. It is in the Schaum outline series.
Homework will be due each week on Friday. I will make appointments to see individuals during the week before it is due. I want to use that time to go over the assignment and to make sure that you are doing everything correctly. You must explicitly check your results and analyze them for plausibility. After that, when the homework is turned in, it must be perfect in order to count.
The subject matter will be from the first four chapters of Griffiths plus some supplementary material on vector spaces and operators.
More specifically, the topics will include the general formalism, many one-dimensional problems, the hydrogen atom, and angular momentum.
There will be two midterm exams and a final. The homework will count as equal to one midterm exam.
