My research interests are experimental atmospheric and oceanic optics. Most of this work is done in the field, either on oceanographic ships or islands. Links in this site include pictures of some of the work which has been performed from my lab. Our work focuses on how light scatters from particles in the atmosphere, ocean, and ocean bottom. This includes measurement of light scattering in seawater, measurement of the radiance distribution (the directional properties of the light field) in the water and sky (spectral and polarized), measurement of aerosol optical depth in many ways, measurement of imaging properties in seawater, and measurement of inelastic scattering in seawater.
