X-ray Astrophysics
Welcome to the web page of
the X-ray Astrophysics group at the University of Miami. In these pages
you will find information on who we are, what we
do, as well as a brief introduction to the topics of X-ray Astrophysics
and
Microcalorimeters. Also included are descriptions of the experiments we
are
involved with, and the publications resulting from this work. The group
has
just started its activity in August 2002, as Dr. Massimiliano Galeazzi
moved
to the University of Miami from the NASA/Goddard Space Flight
Center.
The group is involved in
two main activities:
- The study of the diffuse X-ray background and its relation
with the
composition and evolution of the interstellar and intergalactic medium.
- The development of high performance X-ray detectors called
cryogenic
microcalorimeters.
Following the links on
the left you will find a short synopsis of the work we are doing in the
field of X-ray Astrophysics. Included in this discussion: what kind of
X-rays we are studying, where they are coming from, what they tell us
about the Universe, and what kind of instruments we use to detect them.
In addition to the introduction to our work, we provide a brief review
of X-ray Astrophysics, and microcalorimeters, the devices we use in our
work.
The EXPERIMENTS
page lists the past, present,
and future experiments of which we have been a part, and provides a
short description of each project. From this page one can reach
individual pages for each experiment that provide further detail about
the project.
